Cause of gastrointestinal bleeding:

Gastrointestinal bleeding is not a disease but a symptom of a significant illness.

Gastrointestinal bleeding is any bleeding in the digestive tract from mouth to the rectum. The digestive tract is also known as the gastrointestinal tract. In the human being, this digestive or gastrointestinal tract consists of:

Small intestine

There are two types of bleeding dependant on the source of the organ:

  1. Upper GI bleeding
  2. upper GI bleeding occurs in esophagus, stomach, or duodenum
  3.  lower GI bleeding
  4. When bleeding occurs in the last part of the small intestine, large iInterstim, rectum, or anus, then the bleeding is known as lower GI bleeding.

The amount of bleeding varies from person to person. Sometimes a person experiences extreme

bleeding that can lead to threatening hemorrhage.

But, mostly, the amount of blood is so small that it is undetectable. A minimal amount of blood can only be dejected by testing the stool.

Many symptoms indicate gastrointestinal bleeding, such as:

  • blood in stool or dizziness
  • the black color of vomiting
  • vomiting

Causes of upper GI bleeding

  1. Peptic ulcer
  2. It is the common cause of GI bleeding
  3. The formation of sores on the lining of the stomach wall and the  upper part of small intestine cause peptic ulcer
  4. These sores developed by the infection of individual bacteria. The name of the bacteria is H. pylori
  5. Another reason for the formation of these sores is stomach acid And the use of anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • It is a significant cause of GI bleeding.
  • Formation of tears in the lining of the tube both esophagus that connects throat from the stomach is called Mallory-Weiss tears
  • Mostly the reason for Mallory-Weiss tears is excessive drinking.
  • Excessive vomiting also causes the formation of cracks in the lining of the esophagus.
  • The number of tears could be more than one at the same time
  • Coughing or childbirth may also cause Mallory-Weiss tears in a person.
  • It is another more significant reason for GI bleeding in adults.
  • Mostly the people who are infected with serious liver illness have
  • It happens when The veins are located initial figures or up the first part of the Esophageal varices.
  • The stomach becomes large abnormally.
  • These in a large vein may break and cause blood to secrete
  • Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD)
  • GERD is another cause of upper GI bleeding.
  • It happens when the stomach acid comes back into the throat.
  • Then it causes irritation and inflammation in the esophagus that lead to bleeding.
  • GERD is also known as an acid reflex.
  • Angiodysplasla:
  • When the veins in the digestive track grow abnormally large, it causes a condition that is known as angiodysplasia
  • The veins became so fragile that a light pressure can cause them to tear
  • Angiodysplasia is another significant cause of GI bleeding.
  • A benign tumoris not cancer; it is the abnormal and irregular growth of tissue in the stomach or rectum.
  • A benign tumor is also a cause of GI bleeding because it causes bleeding in the digestive tract of a human body.

There are some causes of lower GI bleeding, such as :

  1. Diverticular disease:
  2. Diverticula disease cause information of small pouches and sacs on the wall of the colon. Then sacs and bulges push outward through the week spots of the colon and cause bleeding in the colon wall.
  3. Diverticular disease is a significant cause of GI bleeding.
  4. Colitis:
  5. Colitis is also the primary cause of the formation of an ulcer in the large intestine
  6. ulcerative colitis cause of bleeding in gastrointestinal tract
  7. ulcerative colitis cause the secretion of blood through bowls. It is an Inflammatory disease.
  8. Hemorrhoids:
  9. Hemorrhoids are the  swollen veins that are present in the rectums and anus
  10. Constipation and straining during bowel movements cause hemorrhoids to swell.
  11.  Swelling hemorrhoids cause itching, pain and sometimes bleeding in the anus and rectum
  12. Sometimes increasing hemorrhoids cause small tears to form on the inner side of the anus which causes bleeding in the digestive tract. These tiny cracks known as Annal fissures.
  13. Animal features and hemorrhoids are the primary cause of lower GI bleeding.
  14. Proctitis:
  15. it is a condition that causes inflammation in the lining of the rectum.
  16. Proctitis is the primary cause of GI bleeding in adults.
  17. Blood vessels disease:
  18. This cause of GI bleeding is in mainly old people
  19. As a person ages, their blood vessels and veins start swelling up, which causes bleeding.
  20. These type of disease is widespread but mostly happen in the last stage of life
  • Ischemic colitis occurs when there is an insufficient supply of oxygen to the cells that are present in the large intestine. Due to an inadequate amount of oxygen, then cells in the large intestine starts to bleed and cause GI bleeding.
  • Another reason for the ischemia colitis is constant Constipation, which causes belly pain and lead to his ischemia colitis.
  • If the cells of the large intestine do not get enough supply of blood, then it also causes gastrointestinal bleeding.

The color of the blood is also dependent on Where the bleeding is happening.

If bleeding is in the lower part of the digestive tract, then the color of the blood would be a bright red. And there is also blood mixed with your stool.

If the bleeding is happening in the upper part of the colon And and last part of the small intestine, then the color of the blood will be dark red and mix with stool.

When bleeding is in the upper part of the stomach or esophagus, then the feces would be black and have a nasty smell. In this type of bleeding, the blood may become out of the body by vomiting.

Eating some food and medicine such as iron and antibiotics makes the color of the stool looks like the blood. But it’s not blood, so there is no need to worry about gastrointestinal bleeding.
